This year's challenge

WELCOME to Team 1094...!

The Channel Cats.

This is a picture of the robots layout If you are new to this site you may wonder who we are. We are a robotics team, located in St. Charles, MO, designing real robots from scratch in 42 days! And if that is not enough to say we do some high level stuff; guess who runs this team! Kids. Starting at age 13 kids will enter into the team, though they may enter at any age. Then as a team, with other kids between the ages of 13 and 18, they start to learn to build and program robots. But that's not enough to make this an interesting event... They also animate movies and build websites. Speaking of which... You may have guessed, it is kids designing these websites!

Now you may wonder why we build these massive 120lbs robots. it all started when when engineer Dean Kamen decided that America was failing in the the race in technology. 16 years ago he started a nonprofit organization called FIRST designed to get kids into science and engineering. Every year there is a new challenge and the teams have 42 days to build and program a robot from nothing. Because this is a nonprofit organization you may wonder, how do the teams get the money to build these robots?

The teams must go out and get sponsors to help them along. Sponsors don't always give just money. Sometimes sponsors give parts or education to the teams, which always proves just as valuable. FIRST provides an opportunity for teenagers to prepare for real life. They may come across things such as scholarships. Also, from what they learn they can get college credit and find out what they can do. Many of the people who were originally in FIRST are now either company owners or very successful people.

If you would like to join our team as a mentor or a team member you may get your information here

You may also enjoy a game that is designed to give you an idea of how to program.
